We were honored to welcome over 370 delegates to the I International Congress on Water Management in the Mining Industry - WIM 2008, produced by Gecamin Ltd. and held on 9-11 July 2008 in the Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center in Santiago, Chile.

Delegates from 16 countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and USA) and from around 40 mining companies participate to the congress.

On its first version, WIM 2008 has confirmed to be an international forum where professionals can meet and interact with their counterparts from different countries and share ideas about experiences, innovations and recent developments related to sound water handling and management in mining operations.

During the three days of WIM 2008 congress, the audience had the opportunity to assist to 45 presentations attempting to answer crucial questions of how to possibly face the challenges of water management in socially, economically and environmentally responsible ways. Most of the presented articles were published in the proceedings.

We greatly appreciate the hard work of all the authors for sharing their knowledge and experience and thank them for their effort and invaluable contributions. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Technical and Advisory Committees, who supported and promoted this event and helped to review the articles, and to all the sponsors and delegates. All of you contributed to the Congress’ great success.

We hope that everyone of the participants enjoyed both the technical sessions and the social functions and found this Congress truly worth their while! Thank you once again for supporting this initiative. We look forward to see you again at the next Water in Mining – WIM Congress.
